Chicago Council on Global Affairs Holds Public Meeting for Mexican Community - Illinois

“On Monday, September 18, 2006, The Mexican American Task Force of The Chicago Council of Global Affairs, released the Task Force’s report: A Shared Future: The Economic Engagement of Greater Chicago and its Mexican Community.

The Task Force members are: Clare Munana; President of Ancora Associates, Douglas A. Doetsch; Partner of Mayer Brown Rowe and Maw, Alajandro Silva; Chairman of The Evans Food Group, Allert Brown-Gort; Associate Director of the Institute for Latino Studies University of Notre Dame, and Sylvia Puente: Director of the Metropolitan Initiative of Chicago. Presiding was Marshall Bouton, President of the Chicago Council of Global Affairs. Their Excellencies Carlos Sada, Consul General of Mexico and Ambassador J. D. Bindenagel of DePaul University were in attendance.

With grace and polish Mr. Bouton introduced the members of the Task Force to a receptive audience held Monday evening at the Mexican Museum of Fine Arts in Chicago. The nature of the meeting was to articulate the results of the report to the public and to acquire feedback from the community. In this extensive and comprehensive report the Task Force articulates with clarity and detail the needs of the Mexican Community and what has to be accomplished to accommodate the process of assimilation into the greater Chicago area community. The report is replete with statistics, charts, and graphs to explicate the areas that are in most need of attention.
