“Modesty is a virtue but it may be stopping thousands of Hispanic women from getting breast exams. But a group in South Bay is promoting a change in perceptions with something called a “promotoras.”

A “promotoras” is a specially trained educator in Latino communities and the Scripps Mercy Breast Outreach Program is utilizing promotoras like Norma Toledo to teach Hispanic women how to examine their breasts for possible tumors.”
