Metro Detroit’s Latino population expands, extending beyond Mexico for a rich diversity in culture

“In metro Detroit, as the Latino population grows more diverse, a dynamic of community and collaboration is being cultivated. In southwest Detroit, where connections among Latinos of different cultures is most visible, non-Mexican Latinos have developed a continued affinity for the predominant Mexican and Mexican-American culture, while being proud of their heritage.

Though their population in metro Detroit is increasing, Latinos with non-Mexican origins have not outpaced Mexicans and Mexican-Americans, who are still by far the largest and most rapidly growing population among all Latinos in southeast Michigan.”
