“Mizell Stewart III, managing editor of the Akron (OH) Beacon Journal, will keynote the second annual weekend conference for Hispanic journalists of faith in Miami. The conference will be held Friday through Sunday, November 3 – 5.
The conference, hosted by Florida International University, will also feature Rafael Olmeda, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, who is the president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Joining Olmeda and Stewart will be Manny Garcia, metro editor at the Miami Herald, Michael Sallah, investigations editor at the Miami Herald, Tessie DeVore, founder of Vida Cristiana, Berta Delgado, formerly Dallas Morning News and now editor of communications at Prestonwood Baptist Church (Dallas), and Luis Rios, director of photography at the Miami Herald. Rudy Carrasco, Director of Harambee Ministries (Pasadena, Calif.) and adjunct administrator at the World Journalism Institute, will coordinate the conference and speak Friday evening. On Sunday morning there will be an informal roundtable discussion of the role and concerns of Hispanic journalists in today’s newsroom. “
