“The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) today announced the winners of its first annual Latino Entrepreneurial Award of Distinctionsm (LEADsm) educational grant program, a national competition that recognizes and rewards young Latinos who demonstrate exceptional entrepreneurship and community service. Fifteen winners were selected from nominations across the nation.

The national first place winner in the 2006 competition is Tyler Sanchez of Racine, Wisconsin, who founded Notes for Hope, a philanthropic business where he records, markets, and sells his Classical compositions on CD. The proceeds are then donated to United Way of Racine County and American Kidney Fund. Tyler had no formal training as a musician or composer, however, taught himself the basics and produced a CD with 7 original classical tracks. This eighteen-year-old funded his creative endeavor by soliciting a corporate sponsor who covered the costs of recording, manufacturing, and packaging. Tyler participated in the LEAD Business Program at Northwestern University World and Business World at St. Nobart College where he won “Best All Around Business Plan” as co-CEO and has been hired by organizations such as R.E.S.P.I.T.E to play at their events and fundraisers. “My parents are immigrants and have worked hard to provide a good life for my siblings and me. They have also instilled in me a strong desire to return my blessings to others.” Says Tyler.”
