Carlos Mencia wants you to remember: It’s just a joke

Tagged: ,
“I’m racial. I’m not a racist,” he stated. “A racist believes that his race is superior. Name a sketch (of mine) that ever had that message. I nail everyone. … People need to understand the difference between a joke and a put-down.”

“The Mencia who sat down for lunch wasn’t the loud, overgrown kid who takes over a stage during a concert or on his show, leaping from one side to the other, riffing on fears and prejudices and stereotypes. He was more subtly opinionated as he talked about life, comedy (“the greatest common denominator shared by cultures across the spectrum”) and misconceptions about him and his work. The fire that lights his comedy was there; he just disposed of some of the theatrics.”
