“The ethnic tides are changing in Colorado, slowly but surely.

With the state’s Latino population growing every year, a new political force is becoming more apparent.

In Larimer County, Latinos make up about 9.5 percent of the population””up from 8.3 percent in 2000. In Weld County that percentage jumps to about one-third of the population. But increases in population don’t necessarily mean an increase in voting numbers. According to the American Political Science Association, of the 39 million Latinos in the country in 2004, 13.2 million were eligible voters, and the rest were too young to vote or not legal residents.”
