“Davis did not converse in Spanish nor touch on immigration or bilingual education to the crowd of less than two dozen, only a handful Latino, at what was billed as an outreach for Hispanic voters. But Davis’s quick stop was a telling example of the weight Hispanics play in the governor’s race — and the challenges the candidates face in capturing their vote.

As today’s primary draws near, Democrats Davis and Rod Smith, as well as Republicans Tom Gallagher and Charlie Crist are reaching out somewhat tentatively to Florida’s 1.5 million registered Hispanic voters — a voting bloc political experts think could be the swing voters needed to win Florida’s gubernatorial election.”
