Nationally, about 9 percent of judges and 10 percent of lawyers are members of minority groups, compared with 1 in 4 American workers

“As Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state Assembly Speaker Fabian NÚñez wrangled over the lack of minority judges appointed by the governor, the Hispanic National Bar Association, meeting this week in San Francisco, focused on helping Latino lawyers develop the political savvy to snag an appointment.

A chief objective of the group, which represents 27,000 lawyers nationwide and drew 1,000 to the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Thursday, is to put more Latinos on the bench, said association President Jimmy Reyna, an international trade attorney in Washington, D.C.”
