Ecuador link could boost Atlanta as Latin American gateway

“The first passenger link between Atlanta and Ecuador may seem like a meager addition to the world’s busiest airport.

But on Thursday it had Atlanta leaders talking of stronger business ties between the two places, and Ecuador’s vice president, Alejandro Serrano, predicting it could better position Atlanta in relation to Miami as Latin America’s stepping stone to the U.S.

“Even though Miami is what we see as the gateway to the U.S., we think we’re going to begin to look at Atlanta like that,” Serrano told a group of Hispanic business leaders and airport officials.”
