“”Me become a leader? Honestly, it is too much work, and I am at my job too many hours. Who has the time?” Arias said last week.

That sentiment is a familiar one among Central and South American immigrants in Hunterdon, which has one of the fastest-growing Hispanic populations in New Jersey and where advocates say the emerging Latino community now needs leaders.

Recent U.S. Census figures indicate Hunterdon’s Hispanic population grew 40.9 percent from 2000 to 2005. After Sussex and Warren counties, Hunterdon experienced the state’s third-highest increase in Hispanic population over the five-year period.”
