Hispanics seek local political influence in Central Tennessee

“Cristina Allen is dismayed by the rise of anti-immigrant sentiment, much of it directed at Hispanics, in the town she has called home for 18 years.

“A lot of us are professionals. We’re educated. We’re legal. And we vote,” said Allen, a member of the newly formed Middle Tennessee Hispanic Democrats.

Rather than simply wait for things to get better, local Hispanics are trying to affect the public discussion as well as have an effect on legislation that they believe harms immigrants.”
