Looking like Don Quixote, not Sancho Panza

The National Council of La Raza reported that, in 2005, at least one in four Latino adults in the United States was obese, with a BMI (body mass index) greater than 30

“Here’s the skinny: Local Latino leaders need to eat right, walk more and promote healthful lifestyles in the community.

It’s appropriate for them to talk about the need for more political involvement, higher education, voting participation and healthcare access; it’s just as admirable for them to take the lead on confronting the obesity and diabetes crises afflicting Latinos.

It confuses overweight students to hear corpulent teachers, politicians and administrators talk about instilling discipline and hard work into their studies and lives when it’s obvious that the adults can’t put the fork down at the dinner table.”
