“The population growth of Hispanics across Texas’ cities, suburbs and roughly the entire eastern half of the state has been the dominant demographic story of the past few decades.

But there’s another story being told in 40 rural counties, mostly in West Texas and near the Mexican border. They’re the ones where, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Hispanic population has dropped since 2000.”
