“Despite all their political activism, Maná has never been a radical band musically.

What makes them so appealing and so successful, are classic, middle-of-the-road rock values: solidly structured songs, memorable melodies, passionate sincerity about love or social injustice and a gift for lyrics that perfectly captures a feeling in a phrase.

But the new album Amar es Combatir is a little too middle-of-the-road. Recording in Miami may have been rejuvenating for the band members, but musically Combatir often feels like they’re treading water.”
