“Scores of businesses and jobs, along with a possible financial institution, could forever change the face of the Capitol East neighborhood as a new Latino corridor is completed by 2007. Plans for development in the area will revitalize a neighborhood that’s home to thousands of Latinos - and considered tattered by some.
“That neighborhood has not been given too much attention,” said Shelley Watkins, project manager at Neighborhood Development Corp., a nonprofit group created to help spur development in distressed areas. “There’s so much spending potential from the people who live in that neighborhood, and to be able to give them a place to spend in their local community will give them a sense of pride and revitalization.”"
