“Waterbury’s Latino population continues to surge, now making up more than a quarter of city residents, new census data shows.

Between 2000 and 2005, the number of Latinos in households here grew nearly 23 percent, more than any other Connecticut city. Waterbury is home to nearly 29,000 Latinos, the survey found, exceeding the total population of any neighboring town.

The proportion of Latinos jumped from 22 to 27.5 percent, a trend reflected elsewhere in Connecticut and throughout the United States.”
