“Today at 64, Jimenez said his parents had made their point. He studied hard so he wouldn’t be stuck in a life of hard labor. It also instilled in Jimenez a lifelong empathy for the men and women who weren’t able to escape the fields of fruits and vegetables.
Throughout his career as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Jimenez has provided care, often at no cost, to farmworkers suffering from injured backs, shoulders and knees here and in Mexico.
Jimenez was recently honored by the Medical Board of California for 30 years of work with farmworkers. The board’s Physician Recognition Committee was created to honor the likes of Jimenez, who strive to improve access and to fill gaps in the health-care delivery system for underserved populations in California, said board spokeswoman Candis Cohen.”
