While 10 years ago Mexican avocados were off-limits to the U.S. market, in the 2003-2004 growing season, 47,000 tons were imported, up 42 percent from the 2002-2003 season

“A magic combination of elevation, precipitation and fertile volcanic soils have long made this lush region near Mexico’s central Pacific coast an ideal place to grow avocados.

Now the growers here hope that one day, when Americans think of avocados, they think of the Michoacán state.”
