“Planning a wedding through e-mails and text messages may not be the standard version of every little girl’s dream, but being a professional athlete can require a change in the script.

With tournaments, training camps and practices for the U.S. national team scheduled nearly every week leading up to her Sept. 30 wedding to Adam Burks, Mendoza has been forced to leave much of the planning to her family.

Instead of worrying about floral arrangements and invitation orders, the 25-year-old Camarillo High graduate is focused on defensive adjustments and pitch counts.”
