“Hiring a Spanish-speaking employee was one option discussed Tuesday as Sauk County officials pondered the rising costs of hiring translators when people who don’t speak English appear in court.

The cost of providing interpreters for hearings in Sauk County Circuit Court has risen from about $684 in 1997 to $33,000 in 2005, according to the Clerk of Courts Office.

Translation services will cost about $45,000 by the end of 2006, said Donna Mueller, Sauk County Clerk of Circuit Court. She will request the county budget $50,000 for interpreter services in 2007, she said.”
