“Felicita Mitrano left little doubt why she showed up Saturday for the Puerto Rican Parade.

She carried a Puerto Rican flag. Her umbrella had “I love Puerto Rico” on it. And her dress was red, white and blue, in a design similar to the flag of her homeland.

“We have come here to stay ”” and are proud to be Puerto Rican,” said Mitrano, 74, as she gathered with almost 300 other people in a parking lot on North Clinton Avenue to await the start of the parade, which went almost two miles on the streets of northeast Rochester before ending up at St. Michael’s Church.”
