South Carolina attracting more and more Hispanics

“South Carolina’s Hispanic population continues to be one of the fastest growing in the country as immigrants flock to the state to find work.

The state’s Hispanic population grew 7.1 percent from 2004 to 2005 ”” the third-fastest growth rate in the country. The Census Bureau will report today that 139,801 Hispanic people live in South Carolina.

And South Carolina has recorded a 45 percent increase in Hispanics during the past five years ”” the fourth-largest growth rate in the nation, according to the census. Nationally, the Hispanic population growth rate was 21 percent between 2000 and 2005.”
