The state’s Hispanic population grew 7.1 percent from 2004 to 2005 ”” the third-fastest growth rate in the country. The Census Bureau will report today that 139,801 Hispanic people live in South Carolina.
And South Carolina has recorded a 45 percent increase in Hispanics during the past five years ”” the fourth-largest growth rate in the nation, according to the census. Nationally, the Hispanic population growth rate was 21 percent between 2000 and 2005.”
