“After a year’s hiatus, Chicago’s Goodman Theatre will present its third Latino Theatre Festival, Aug. 4-20, featuring a streamlined look and an international roster of artists. Gone are multiweek runs of centerpiece productions — such as Luis Alfaro’s Electricidad in 2004 — in favor of short runs and one-time events. “By design, the format is much more in keeping with a traditional international festival,” says Henry Godinez, the festival’s director. “That’s why we took a year off, so that I could have the experience of seeing work and festivals in other countries.”

Godinez, a veteran Chicago actor-director and the Goodman’s resident artistic associate, also co-founded Teatro Vista, one of the city’s handful of Latino theatre troupes. He has organized this year’s festival into roughly equal halves of staged readings in English and full productions in Spanish.”
