Knowledge is Power!
“West Aurora school officials will use a $40,000 state grant the district received this summer to add high school Spanish courses for native speakers.
As the district’s bilingual student population grows, teachers have found that they need separate courses to fit the different needs of native and non-native speakers, said Rosemary Pinnick, assistant superintendent for secondary education.
Many native speakers don’t take upper-level Spanish courses or enroll in the college-level Advanced Placement class, Pinnick said. Students who complete AP Spanish and take an end-of-the-year exam can earn college credit.”
