“In August 1946, a small group of women from different cultural backgrounds formed a league of nations in Akron. The Spanish Club, a social organization dedicated to the language of Latin America, will soon celebrate its 60th anniversary.
“The remarkable thing about this Spanish Club is that it has lasted all these years,” said President Patricia Lepingwell, a resident of West Akron. “I can’t quite explain it!”
Mazatlan native Zelmira Kohnz, who emigrated from Mexico to Akron in 1915, started the club with a simple act of hospitality.”
