“A capacity crowd of roughly 14,000 people crammed Raley Field on Sunday for a professional soccer match that lit up the Triple-A baseball field with flags and horns and a festive international atmosphere despite getting almost no advance publicity in the English-language media.

Indeed, the huge turnout for the match between Cruz Azul and Monterrey — two top soccer teams from the Mexican first division — surprised even organizers because it flew almost completely under the radar of the English-language world and was publicized almost exclusively on a local Spanish-language radio network catering to working-class Mexican people living and working in the Sacramento region.”
