“Such ethnic pride was on full display Sunday at the 2006 Puerto Rican Day Parade and Festival, organized by the Puerto Rican Cultural Alliance.

The parade ”” which included low-riders, motorcycles and minibikes bedecked with Puerto Rican flags ”” went down Sixth Street to a festival at Jordan Park that drew an estimated 8,000 people. And when the guitars hummed and the bongos thumped, even grandmothers shook their hips in a manner that would make pop diva J. Lo blush.

Tony Marrero, president of the cultural alliance, said the event aims to highlight the positive aspects of Puerto Rican culture for the overall community.”
