“WHEN ACTOR Cheech Marin went out to buy his first painting, he knew just what he wanted: “You start with something to go over the couch.”

But the piece wasn’t simply 5 feet wide and color-coordinated with the upholstery. Marin chose a painting by George Yepes, a muralist who would become one of the best-known Chicano artists, combining L.A. street sense with classical inspiration.”
