“The name of the new radio station is La Uni-K, a play on the Spanish phrase “la unica,” meaning “the only one.”
Appleton-based WISR La Uni-K, which recently went on the air, is the first and only 24/7 Spanish-speaking radio station broadcasting in northeastern Wisconsin.
There have been other Spanish programs on radio in the area ”” notably the “Variedades en America” and “Evolucion” programs that aired on WLFM from the Lawrence University campus before the station was sold last year ”” but WISR is the first to go full-time. “
