“Days before last May’S immigration rights rallies in New London and throughout the nation, the head of the Thomas G. Faria Corp. in Uncasville sent a letter to all employees warning them about unexcused absences in support of what he labeled “illegal activity.”

The letter, in English and Spanish, was signed by Dave Blackburn, the president and CEO of Faria, which manufactures tachometers and other high-tech instrumentation.

From an employer’s point of view, it was a relatively pro-forma word of caution: Take time off without permission or by not using a personal or vacation day, and suffer the consequences.”
