Avon Park votes down immigrant ordinance. Florida

“Hundreds of people cheered late Monday night as this citrus town’s City Council defeated an ordinance aimed at penalizing employers, landlords and merchants who do business with illegal immigrants.

At the end of five hours of impassioned debate, the council first rejected a motion to table — or delay — a decision on the measure. Then, by the same 3-2 vote, a motion to approve the ordinance also failed.”
