“Demands on the area’s hospitals have been growing, because the population in Orange, Osceola, Lake and Seminole counties has increased by more than 13 percent during the past five years — to 1.8 million. The Hispanic population in Central Florida has grown to more than 376,600, according to census figures.

To help relieve the shortage, the Florida Legislature enacted a law in 2002 streamlining the approval process and making it easier for nurses from Puerto Rico to become licensed in Florida.”
