One stat that jumped out at me was in the section entitled Language Attributes by Generation. 97% of foreign born Hispanics report that the language they first learned was Spanish, which is no surprise. But 79% of first generation Hispanics and 63% of second generation Hispanics also said Spanish was the first language they learned.

This confirms what we anecdotally knew, which is that Hispanics teach their children Spanish in the home before they go off to school to learn English. Not only that, that teaching Spanish to kids is a high priority to first generation Hispanics, who are presumably fully bilingual. “
