“The topic is listeriosis–and teaching pregnant woman that they should avoid eating certain cheeses made with unpasteurized milk. The problem is that a bacteria called Listeria may be in the cheese (usually homemade cheese, like Queso Fresco/Blanco). This bacteria can kill a woman’s unborn baby–and many times, she doesn’t even have the symptoms. It’s very scary, and there have been recent outbreaks, thus the FDA is taking action and wants to get the message out.
So these materials for educators have been created and they are FREE. It’s a brochure, Q&A, colored posters, a fotonovela-and everything is in print and on a CD and in both English and Spanish. All materials are reproducible to further increase the awareness of listeriosis. We need to get it in the hands of educators (Promotoras, Doulas, Community Centers, etc) because they are the ones that can spread the word.”
