“With his latest deal, Univision CEO and Chairman A. Jerrold Perenchio walks away the winner, as he always has, whacking Televisa one last time and reaping the financial rewards on his own terms.

The sale of Univision Communications Inc. for $12.3 billion and $1.4 billion in debt on June 27 to billionaire producer Haim Saban and investors Madison Dearborn Partners, Providence Equity, Texas Pacific Group and Thomas H. Lee Partners was seen by observers to be the 75-year-old Perenchio’s final slap to Grupo Televisa. The Mexico City-based Spanish-language multimedia giant was behind Univision’s quiet launch in 1961, after all, and which ever since has retained part ownership of the company while providing the majority of its prime-time programming.”
