“Domestic abusers in the Latino community are no different, really, from those in any other, says Rachel Rodriguez.
“It’s about power and control and someone thinking they have a right to do it,” said Rodriguez, executive director of UNIDOS (Spanish for United) Against Domestic Violence. “It’s about the patriarchal society we all live in.”
“When domestic violence happens to a person of color, it’s the culture” that is pointed to as a cause, she said. “That’s not true.”"
