“WPBT Channel 2 and the Steering Committee of the Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer Conference are proud to recognize the dedication and achievements of Lilliam S. Machado as the first honoree at the first annual Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer Conference, hosted by WPBT.
Currently, Lilliam S. Machado is the Executive Unit Board Vice-Chair for the American Cancer Society and has volunteered at the American Cancer Society for almost 20 years, focusing on educating both men and women about cancer prevention. She has managed Relevo por la Vida, a health fair, which started in 2003 to serve the Hispanic community in Miami. Through her dedication and hard work for the American Cancer Society she has been named chairperson of the Hispanic Initiative and an Honorary Chairperson for Relevo por la Vida. Lilliam has truly become the “Hispanic” voice for the American Cancer Society.
In addition, Ms. Machado has volunteered and served as the Chair of various foundations. As a chairperson at Christopher Columbus High School, she helped turn an annual fundraiser called “Cuban Night” from a small cafeteria gathering into a prevailing fundraiser that is now held at the Big Five Club. Ms. Machado also served as a board member for the Linda Ray Infant Center, where she helped raise money during the Tango Night Gala for Infants in Need and the Abused Children’s Foundation. In 2004, she was honored as the Gala Chairperson for the ALPHA 1 Foundation, an organization dedicated to the research and education about Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic disorder that can cause liver and lung disease in children and adults. She has also organized the Fiesta Española for CAMACOL - Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and has had the honor of being named Chairperson by Mayor Steve Clark for her dedication to the City of Miami’s Sister Cities Program.
Born in Cuba, Lilliam and her family immigrated to the United States over 45 years ago. Ms. Machado is an icon in the South Florida community, as well as, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She has made an enormous impact in our community and has been an inspiration to her family, friends and colleagues.
