“Ortiz Laureano is one of 12 graduate students from Puerto Rico who have been visiting Connecticut to gain a better understanding of how social work is practiced here and how Puerto Ricans and other Latino groups are viewed.

“So far, I learned that the social service agencies here are better organized and funds are better utilized,” said Ortiz Laureano. “I also learned how language barriers can impede how Puerto Ricans receive services. In Puerto Rico, language isn’t an issue.””
