Knowledge is Power!

“With a severe need for bilingual social workers in Aurora, a program has been launched to encourage local bilingual high school students to join the field.

Almost every social service agency in Aurora is lacking adequate bilingual staff to serve the growing Hispanic population, said Jerry Murphy, executive director of Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services Inc. in Aurora.

Through the Latino Human Services Career Development Program, students take an introductory human services class that emphasizes the local need with hopes they will continue studies in the field and return to the area.”
