“Miss Martinez is one of many Hispanic women who have participated in the Uniquely Me! Girl Scouts program, a nationwide program geared toward promoting self-esteem in girls and young women. Uniquely Me! has worked with the Heart of Missouri Council to found Hispanic Girl Scout troops in Sedalia, Columbia, Jefferson City, Marshall, La Monte and California.

The program helped Miss Martinez adjust to her new country, and that helped her develop the confidence, social skills and public speaking skills that she needed to win Miss Missouri Latina, Miss Martinez said.”
