Alvarado is board president in Long Beach, Long Island, New York

“Roy Lester’s bumpy term as president of the Board of Education - a year in which he was targeted for removal by the teachers’ union in an ever-deepening rift over its lapsed contract - came to an end last Thursday, along with the official end to the school year.

Lester was replaced by Franklin Alvarado, an architect who is believed to be the district’s first Hispanic school board president.”
