“Tonight, Hazleton officials will decide whether to risk community wrath and at least one lawsuit by adopting a law that targets illegal immigrants indirectly, by punishing the employers who hire them and the landlords who rent to them.

The Illegal Immigration Relief Act Ordinance would also enshrine English as the official language of this city built on the backs of Italians, Poles, Slavs, Irish and other immigrants who labored in its now long-defunct coal mines and mills.”
