“A con artist who posed as an immigration agent cheated dozens of people out of nearly $290,000 after promising them green cards and other documents, said yesterday.

John Nevarez, 53, of East Harlem set up Tickets R Us at a storefront at 307 E. 111th St. last August and charged clients thousands of dollars each for Social Security cards, work visas and residency papers, cops said.

“These were hardworking people,” said Lt. John Zerillo of the impersonation investigation unit. “They thought he was a legitimate INS agent who could expedite the process.”"
