“An estrella (the Spanish word for ’star’) may be born this weekend at Paramount’s Carowinds during Celabracion Latina, a two-day festival celebrating Latino culture.

For the first time, the festival will feature the five finalists of an ‘American Idol’-style competition called Vozarron de Corazon (’Singing from the Heart.’)

‘We auditioned people just like they do on `American Idol,’ but we weren’t as mean as Simon (`American Idol’ judge Simon Cowell),’ says Diogenes Ruiz, president of the Ruiz Agency in Raleigh and one of the organizers of the festival. ‘They all had to sing a capella, and they either had it or they didn’t.’”
