L.A. Confidential: Karl Rove Divides and Distracts on Immigration

“Karl Rove, discussing immigration in Los Angeles before a Latino organization today, did not apologize for spearheading the Republican Party’s election year strategy of scapegoating immigrants for political gain, and continued his party’s effort to use the issue to distract from their failed leadership. Rove, the architect of the “anger points” strategy being used by Congressional Republicans in a desperate attempt to hold on to power, has led the effort to use the crucial issue of immigration reform as a wedge issue to motivate extremist Republicans on Election Day. Only three months after Rove was reassigned to work on a compromise on immigration that would satisfy congressional Republicans, President Bush has signaled his willingness to give in to extremists in the House of Representatives and to delay comprehensive immigration reform.
