“avid Inocencio just completed the fourth grade and is ready to enjoy a much needed summer break. Not having to wake up to catch the school bus, David spent his day like the other days since he’s been out of school: sleeping in until noon, playing video games until 3 p.m. and watching cartoons until his mother, Nancy Inocencio, came home from work at 5:30 p.m. Inocencio cooked dinner as usual and the two ate together watching more television. Around 11 p.m. Inocencio ushered a resistant David into bed.

In a matter of several weeks, she noticed that David was becoming more preoccupied with sedentary indoor activities instead of playing outside with his friends. David even looked like he had gained a little weight. Inocencio quickly realized that she needed to get David engaged in more physical activities since he was no longer participating in these at school.
