“The Rev. Andrew Corona, pastor of

Merrillville’s St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, really wanted to say “No” the first time Gary Diocese Hispanic Ministry assistant director Adeline Torres asked him to celebrate Mass for Northwest Indiana’s migrant workers.

Born to immigrants himself, Corona ”” whose father was born in a box car stopped in Kansas ”” wanted nothing more than to celebrate with them. It’s just that Corona doesn’t speak Spanish, and he was worried he was going to butcher the language, making the workers laugh, or worse, insulting them.”
