“The so-called sleeping giant – the low-turnout-prone Latino electorate – is waking up. There’s no doubt about that, not since 500,000 filled the streets of downtown Los Angeles on March 25 to protest proposed illegal immigration reform.
“What we may be witnessing with the immigration issue is the start of a civil rights movement among Latinos,” said Karthick Ramakrishnan, an expert in the politics of immigration and ethnicity at UC Riverside, in a news release from the Latino Policy Coalition.”
