“Horry County has seen a spike in Hispanic-owned businesses, from 117 in 1997 to 184 in 2002, the most recent year for which data is available.

Although they make up a relatively small percentage of South Carolina’s 293,000 businesses, the number of Hispanic-owned firms grew by 48 percent between 1997 and 2002, to 3,015 firms statewide. The revenue from Hispanic-owned firms also increased to $691 million in 2002 from $251 million in 1997, according to the S.C. Budget and Control Board.”
